REMEMBERING MATT OSBORNE
|
by Brent Hagerman April 21 — 27, 2005 |
|
When Matt Osborne passed away a year ago this Saturday there
was no lack of public grief. Friends, fans and musicians have
banded together over the year to show their respect for Matt’s
accomplishments and love of his music. Musicians in K–W, Guelph
and Toronto responded by paying tribute to the songwriter at
three separate concerts held in his honour shortly after his death.
There has also been a weekly jam, first held at the Circus Room
and now at Scott Street Grill on Tuesday nights, titled the Matt
Osborne Memorial Jam. It is a continuation of the long standing
Tuesday night open stage Matt was proud to host. Money raised
at all these events went towards the Matt Osborne Musicians
Trust Fund.
Now, a year later, those close to Matt want to mark the first
year of his passing with a memorial celebration being held at the
Boathouse in Victoria Park. The concert will not only be a chance
to hear Matt’s songs covered by other artists and songs written
specifically for Matt, it will also have the first official presentation
of money from the Trust Fund to ROOF, a local charity that works
with youth at risk. In addition, three previously unheard
recordings of Matthew Osborne songs will be debuted.
Musicians performing include Tory Wilhelm, Andy Miller,
Christine Bird, Chris Patheiger, Pete Ahrens, Punam Ahuja, Shelley
Young, Arun Pal, Serge Solski, Scott Deneau, Dinocopter, The
Sophisticats, Uncle Seth, Lynn Jackson Andrew Hopper and Mary
Anne Epp. Doors open at 8pm and there is no cover charge. If you
would like to know more about the evening or about Matt himself,
